Kind of the opposite of JFK’s timeless quote on country, eh? I’ve never seen a time when so many expected so much from their country (note, I didn’t say gov’t), and gave so little to it in return. And that is on both sides of the aisle, I’m not just picking on the Dem’s here. It’s all about the pork… Gone are the days where our lawmakers actually thought about anything beyond their re-election timeline and their fundraisers. Gone are the days when neighbors helped neighbors instead of expecting Washington to take care of them.
Part of the problem with lawmakers these days, is we have so many laws, yet we all expect the lawmakers to “work” while in Washington, so what do they do? That’s right, they make more laws and create more pork. Lather, rinse, repeat. I’d be happy if every 8-10 years or so, one term in Congress was dedicated to reviewing existing laws for effectiveness and/or deregulation. Congress and the White House need a good old-fashioned audit that is lead by the taxpayers.
