What Jeremy Wariner should have said…

http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/share.html?videoid=0821_HD_ATB_HL_L1148

Not sure why I am blogging this now, but I guess it just hasn’t sat well with me.

About 3:15 into the interview, the questioner asks Jeremy Wariner if his coaching change like a year ago was the reason he just took Silver.  I don’t know about you, but I can’t stand when the media thinks they need to “ask tough questions” of athletes in these situations.  Seriously, Wariner just took Silver in the Olympics and you’re questioning his training and his coaching?  He just beat 6 or 7 of the world’s best at an incredibly brutal distance not too mention thousands who never even qualified and you have the audacity to question some decision he made a long time ago?  I could maybe see if if the defending Gold medalist had fail to qualify for the Olympics, but give me a break, it’s the finals of the Olympics.  Merrit ran an incredible race, and Wariner was the first to acknowledge it (well, second, Merrit was actually the first to acknowledge that he, himself ran a great race.)

So, just like the media always does, they focus on the negative, when they they should have just been polite and let Wariner feel good about being the Silver medalist in the Olympics.
