Time Warner Repair Guy
So, the Time Warner guy was here the other day to fix our cable signal (the digital box was not getting enough signal.) About 5 minutes into the visit, the guy asks me where the connection comes into the house, so, I take him outside to show him. In route, I notice that he has left his van idling. So, I said “why do you leave your van running?” His response, “I don’t pay the gas!” I said, “I know, I do.” I also added, “You ever hear of air pollution?” and he just looked at me like I was crazy, but he did shut the truck off. Seriously, he was at my house for over 30 minutes. If I hadn’t seen his van idling, he would have left it on and running for well over 30 minutes. Who does that kind of thing? It was just offensive on so many levels. First off, gas prices are through the roof. Even if you don’t pay for the gas, you still owe it to the rest of us to not waste the stuff. Maybe if the oil producers see that we aren’t so addicted to the liquid gold, they will have to discount. Secondly, you ever heard of smog and air pollution? Don’t you like to breath clean air?
The sad thing, is I see people like this all over the place, especially all the poor mommies and daddies bringing their kids to school or driving them to the bus stops. They show up 10 minutes before the bus arrives or whatever and they sit and idle in 45 degree weather because, boy is it ever cold, don’t want precious junior to have to stand outside. Geez, he might get hypothermia in that weather. I can’t wait until my son is older, he’ll be telling his kids “When I was younger, I had to stand outside in 50 degree weather and wait for the bus!” What nerve!
At any rate, people, do us all a favor, and turn off your stupid car when you are going to be waiting for more than a minute or so. Better yet, ride your bike or walk when you can or make your kid take, gasp, the bus to school! And Time Warner, please send a memo to all your repair people to not leave their vehicles running while they are inside working. My cable bill is high enough as it is.
