Baseball tells Congress it’s nearing steroids accord - Yahoo! News

I am (tongue in cheek, of course) thinking of forming an association of a bunch of really good computer programmers:

We’ll pay dues, have some professional programming events where we compete to see who can complete certain security tasks (setup by the association.) We probably can even attract a lot of security analysts, etc. to watch/sponsor the events. I can picture it now: The World Hacking Championship sponsored by Symantec! My, does that have a ring to it…

And, every now and then, just to make sure our members aren’t doing anything illegal, we will have random checks whereby we make sure they are not stealing credit cards or money from bank accounts, etc. or any other pesky little felonies. No need to get the law involved, the law is just for ordinary citizens. These “programmers” (hackers?) are world class and way above that. In fact, over time, they will make so much money, we can grant them god-status.

If they do get caught doing bad things, however, the first fine will be a 50 day suspension from their computer. Next offense will be 100 days, followed by 150 days, followed by expulsion from the club, all enforced, of course by the association. Again, never mind that they are committing felonies, that’s just another word for misdemeanor and public apology in the land of celebritydom. Besides, who needs felonies when you’ve got really good lawyers.

Of course, we’ll have to get an anti-trust exclusion from Congress first…
