Interesting scenarios, if not a bit overstated.  I do understand where the author is coming from, but one piece of these kind of arguments always fail for me.  Simply put, if things were so great back in the 50’s and 60’s, how did we get here?  Aren’t those people that went on to be “successful businessman”, etc. now our parents?  Aren’t they the ones who created this modern, politically correct (and at the same time the huge backlash where we all think we can do and say anything, as long as we are anonymous about it) landscape?  Clearly, a whole bunch of them must have been dissatisfied with that approach to child rearing?  Who can blame them, of course, they didn’t get their way.

At any rate, I am all for more discipline and more of the “We’ll deal with this up front and now” attitude and less of the “Let the Government take care of it” attitude.  Individual responsibility needs to be brought back into vogue.  A good start is for most modern age, touchy-feely parents to stop worrying about being buddies with their kids and learn how to say no.  Little kids are not adults and should not be treated as such. You can be friends with your kids when they are grown up.
