Leopard Install Notes

So, here are a couple of notes on Leopard install, based on my experience:

  1. First and foremost, back everything up
  2. Do an Archive and Install, not an upgrade.  The upgrade corrupted my disk.  Luckily I had a backup and was eventually able to get the old drive mounted in read-only mode to copy stuff off of it.
  3. In light of 2, create your users on a separate partition (or even a separate disk).  This can now be done in System Prefs->Accounts by right clicking on the user and choosing Advanced Options.  This isn’t exactly documented, but I did find tips on the Apple support discussion forums.
  4. Wait for 10.5.1 or 10.5.2 if you are faint of heart.  I wish I would have been :-)

All in all, though, I am pretty happy with the new features of Leopard.
