MOMS I.N.C. “Improving Nutrition For Children”
MOMS I.N.C. “Improving Nutrition For Children”
My wife and some other mom’s have gotten together and created a group called Moms I.N.C. (Moms Improving Nutrition for Children) to try to address the obesity and behavioral problems rampant in children these days by working to improve the quality of school lunches and to help educate people on how to eat better.
One thing I like about their approach (I am, of course, biased) is that they are not out to demonize types of food (i.e. cookies are “bad” or ice cream is bad). Instead they want to improve what is in the food by getting food manufacturers to remove the Fake Five from food and to help people make better choices about when to eat the so called “bad” food. Believe me when I tell you, you can have good tasting food without MSG, High Fructose Corn Syrup and other additives that add to obesity and bad health. I emphasize good tasting, because I am a food snob and don’t stand for bad tasting food, even if it is organic. There are plenty of manufacturers out there that combine good tasting and good for you (or, in the case of deserts and sweets, better for you than the alternative.)
So, if you are a parent in need of information or support in changing your school’s lunches, I would encourage you to check out their site. If you have the time, you can volunteer to help make it better, too.

Unfortunately, child obesity is becoming rampant all over western communities. Much of this has been brought about by our affluent society. Kids today receive expensive toys like computer game machines, electric scooters, TV in their bedroom etc. Yesterdays kids got their amusement by making billy carts that broke and had to be fixed again, playing games of chase or football, walking to school and back and generally getting constant exercise that developed their hunger and consequently eating good food. Today, good food to kids is takeaway, sweets, ice cream and other non nutritious “foods”. Part of the solution is a food supplement to provide some of the nutrients they should be getting to enhance their appetite for better quality food.
One such product which we have found that does this is Vege Buddies. The advantage of these is that they are like a gummy bear so you don’t have to force the kids to take them. They love eating “sweets”, remember?
So congratu;lations to the Mom’s out their doing the right thing by their kids. People power is a great power once people determine they are going to make a change.

Parents need to be stonger with making decisions on food for there kids. It looks like most kids need more whole foods.

When I saw the movie SUPER SIZE ME, I got shocked after seeing many schools feeding the cildrem with the same or worst food that Mc Donalds or Burger King. Only one school was following a healthy diet, with natural foods, vegetables, fruits, etc, and the results were amazing.
Please watch SUPER SIZE ME.

We could see some of our children actually have worse health conditions due to obesity if we don’t manage the crisis at hand. Type II diabetes is already out of hand. So glad to see someone taking one step in the right direction:-)

How true is this! So many companies being irresponsible and adding unneccessary additives to food to keep cost down without consideration on what is is doing to the health of our children. I feel very fortunate that my children have taken an active role in the choices they make when it comes to the food they put in their body.
It is so important to get the body in motion as well. So many kids now days just want to play video games and not be active. We as parents have to lead by example with the food we chose and how active we are.

Parents need to take control of what their children eat. More importantly, often times, parents actually miss the boat completely, not recognizing the weight issues their child has until it is too late. Recent studies have acutally shown that parents often times have a false image of their own child and his or her weight issue. These obviously leave the parents and the children behind the eight-ball so to speak and playing catch-up, just like so may adults now.
There are ways to combat child obesity and general weight issues and every parent has a responsibility to learn all they can, ensure their children are eating the proper foods and the right amounts and most importantly, are including exercise in their daily routine. THIS CANNOT BE LEFT UP TO THE SCHOOLS ANYMORE!

Very true, Jason. Of course, many of the parents are obese too, so the school may be the only place the child actually could get a decent meal. Sometimes, it’s the kids who change the parents, too.

Good luck and all respect to Moms I.N.C! It all starts with what we as parents keep in the kitchen cupboards… Taking our kids by the hands and educating them to the best of our abilities. Sure, kids will be kids (I still have a sweet tooth at 36), but I feel that eventually getting through to the minds of a capitalistic food industry would take more time than it will for our kids to grow up. There is a lot of ground to cover between now and eventual submission. Educate your kids NOW, and they will grow in their masses to continue standing up to the issues that we are just beginning to stand up to, today…
