American Idol and Vote for the Worst

OK, I admit, I watch American Idol (AI).  Mostly, I watch it b/c my wife does, but, I will also admit the good singers are usually worth watching.  Forget Cowell and the other judges, they more or less are annoying time fillers who are best fast-forwarded past ASAP.

Now, with all the hype around Sanjaya and Vote for the Worst, I can’t help but feel, ironically, given Sanjaya is Indian, that karma is kicking in and paying back the producers, etc. of American Idol.  No offense to Sanjaya, he’s making some major bucks and seems like a nice guy, but given the way that AI trots out and makes gobs of money at the expense of deluded individuals early on in the season, I think Cowell and his cronies get what they deserve every time someone votes for Sanjaya.  Seriously, they absolutely toast these early candidates, who you just know are being setup and played the fool.  So, I guess I won’t shed a tear if the American public says enough is enough and votes Sanjaya to the top.  Maybe then AI will decide to focus on the singing part of the equation, and less on the freak show nature of the tryouts.

I think the show has gotten off to a great start. I’m glad they’re doing more back stories this year. Keeps it interesting. And we have our usual collection of weirdos and misfits. So keep ‘em coming. :o)

But yeah, one year they might just vote the worst all the way to the top.

I’m with you 100% Diane, the back stories make for a richer context. I also really enjoy the auditions for the freak factor.

We just started watching again. We just decided to skip forward to Hollywood week and skip all the Circus Freak Show stuff.

Tonite, the top 12 guys performed live for the first time during American Idol, Season 7. Each contestant had to sing a song from the 60s. My early favorites are Robbie Carrico (I really liked his performance tonite), David Cook , Michael Johns , and J…

    Vote David Archuleta 2008!

April 8th was another good night for the guys. I thiink its going to be an all guy final, but who knows Kristie Lee Cook has hung on each week and it starting to get a following. It is going to be a hard choice tonight.

Great point you have made! I completely agree that AI does tend to hammer the first contestants, even to the point of rudeness.

Maybe someday they will make it about the singing and not the freak show!

Well, they are down to the final 3. Hated to see Jason Castro leave, but I think it will be down to the 2 David’s at the end. I think it has been a great season.

I am still a huge fan of American Idol this season. Here is a cool site that I found that has some really neat drawings! My favorites are the David Cook ones and the Jason Castro ones. Check them out!!! http://www.americanidoldrawings.com
