Google AdWords and AdSense

I call on Google to change their AdWords billing process so that I only have to pay for the ads I buy once my account reaches $100, just like they only pay me once my AdSense account reaches $100. As they say, what’s good for the goose, is good for the gander.

I know it will never happen, but it can’t hurt to ask…

How has Adsense been working for you? I started a blog with Adsense on it a few weeks back, and actually listed it on your Market America rant. Unfortunately, the original link didn’t work. Any chance you can change the address for me? I’d be happy to link back to your site. Thanks.

I am doing OK with AdSense, $60-$70 a month. Basically, some extra spending money, but it took a good year (at a very low rate, maybe one or two posts a week) of building up content to get to that amount. As you can tell from the frequency of my posts, though, I don’t put too much effort into adding new content, like some bloggers do. I also tend to blog on a lot of different things, so I may not do as well as a more focused blog on a high profile topic.

I make about $300 a month off google adsense, from primarly 3 websites. And, yes, it takes a good 6 months to a year of content building to get the traffic levels req’d to make some money. Certainly, the hours I’ve put into it is not worth the $300 a month, except that I enjoy blogging, so I guess then it is.

Nice work, Carol, I always liked your site. I am now getting around $100/month, give or take a few days. I go through spurts of activity in blogging. Maybe 1 to 2 posts a week. I think you have done a good job of staying focused on your topic, whereas I tend to be all over the map on whatever comes to mind.

I like blogging too, but definitely have an eye on making some spending money at it. Basically, adwords buys new camera equipment or maybe a bike or something like that every now and then.

I’m actually brand new to the whole blogging world, but I enjoy what I’ve seen so far. I love to write and ended up with journals full of random thoughts and ideas all over the house, but it had never occurred to me to share them with the world (or that there would be people interested enough to read them!).

The biggest problem I’ve had in this transition is writing as naturally as I do with a pen and notebook. I think sitting in front of a keyboard gives me flashbacks to writing school papers. I think I come across dry, buy maybe I’m just being a little too hard on myself.

Thanks for the info on how you two are doing. It’s not enough to quit your day job, but $300 is a car payment, and that’s not something you just sneeze at :-). Take care and good luck!

  6. Grant Ingersoll Says:

No, I don’t look at is something to quit my day job, but it has lead to other interesting opportunities which I will write about some day when they are public. The key thing for me is that all good writers will tell you that you need to practice writing and blogging helps me do that (not that I am a good writer.) I definitely approach it from a business standpoint and assume that anything I say will have to be accounted for at some point in time. I figure future employers will be reading it. :-)

it is a continual process. making money off Adsense requires real hard work too. i guess you really need to commit yourself making quality articles so you will have the traffic you need. just like everyone, you also need to start off from scratch. nobody can get thousands of dollars without traffic and content.

It’s funny, I have been thinking about my ads more lately. I have been getting much more traffic lately, and on some days it translates to a large number of ad clicks, and other days, the same amount of traffic does nothing.

Then I stopped caring. I like to write, so I just enjoy doing it, and I enjoy the feedback I get from people, at least, I should say, other than the feedback from all the MA psychos (see http://grantingersoll.com/2006/01/29/market-america-questions/) who are mad at me for bursting their bubble. So, the money is just gravy at this point. Sure, I would like to make more. Who wouldn’t want more money for the effort. Am I going to spend my time link baiting on other blogs, etc.? No. I just write what I feel like writing, and if someone else finds that interesting, then great. If not, oh well.

Google doesn’t seem to take the give and take method we advertisers and affiliate marketers always want, but somehow or someway we get our incomes back with its Google Adwords Program.

Nice Post! But I think Adsense earnings are like most any profit opportunity online. It takes some effort along with time.

Thanks and keep up the good work!

Hi great post! Yes i agree that Google should charge in Blocks, perhaps $100 is too much and $50 may be more reasonable. However Google should consider letting you use your adsense earnings to pay for your Adwords.

I think it’s getting harder and harder to make more money with Adsense. Advertisers are getting better and better to get a low CPC. Even in de financial niche you can get your ad placed under 0.10c. Google takes another 60% of this, so you need a lot of clicks!
