More Running, Better Running
My does it feel good to run! As I reported earlier, I have been slowly building back up my running base after being off for a long time due to a couple of surgeries. I know it is going to be a long process to build back up to doing my 20-40 miles a week that I used to do, but I am in for it, as I love to run. This week, I started adding in some simple speed work to my morning run. Nothing timed or heavily thought out, just the simple task of sprinting for 15-30 seconds. Usually, I pick some landmark ahead and then pick up the pace until I get to said landmark. As recommended in Daniels Running Formula I go at about 90% of my current fastest speed, which isn’t all that fast. The great thing is I feel I’m getting stronger every day.
The hardest part has been to get back into my pacing. Before, I felt I could dial in any pace between 8:30/mile down to about 5:30/mile. Now, I’m not so sure. Not that I am trying to run 5:30s yet, but it would be nice to know what pace I’m at. At the same time, I love the freedom of running without a watch and just going for the sheer joy of running.
