Noontime Bike Quickie

Nothing like a quickie at lunch these… on a bike that is. Since I work from home now, I can rip out a quick 10-15 miles or so and be back at home, showered and back to work in about an hour. The key is to focus on quality, not quantity. I use these nooners to work on hill climbing, sprints, etc. Save the endurance building for weekends when you can go out and ride for 1-3 hours or more.

If you live in Cary, NC like I do, you have a plethora of options for rides and plenty of hills that are great for short climbs. Check out the Town’s bike map, available for download here. Better yet, check out my GPS enabled Google Maps on my maps page. Here I have posted GPS coordinates for my favorite noontime quickie: the Three Lakes to Tarbert to Macgregor Downs loop. The key to this ride is to focus on hill training. One workout I try is to sprint up every hill on the loop. This is no small task and is a great workout when you only have a half hour or so to ride. Definitely gets your heart rate up and helps you work on your climbing.
