Dear Cary Parkway Driver

Please forgive my arrogance today, September 15 on your beloved Cary Parkway. I truly did not mean to ride my bike on the six inches of pavement just to the left of the cement apron. I also didn’t mean to follow the rules of the road, signal my turns and take every reasonable precaution to make myself visible. I know this is your road (never mind that it is a designated bike route) and I am truly sorry that I got in your way. You were obviously in a rush due to some life threatening emergency. What else could possibly explain your need to, 20 feet before your turn, pull around me, throw on your blinker (thanks, it really helped me know what you were doing) and then turn right in front of me, missing my front tire by less than a foot. I mean, seriously, if you had waited the extra 20 f***ing seconds that it took me to get past that intersection, something seriously might have changed in your life. Perhaps you might realize, in that time, that riding a bike is a nice, pleasurable thing to do and that when you encounter a bike on the road you should give said cyclist a reasonable amount of space to pursue the experience.

So, please, please forgive me. I promise never to ride my bike on the road again. I will use the sidewalks from now on, or better yet, how about I drive my car the 4 miles it takes me to get to the Y instead? That way, like you, I can not only contribute to the decline of our planet and further our reliance on foreign oil, I can get fat and lazy, too.
