Viewsonic 20″ Monitor Review

I bought the Viewsonic 20″ Flat Screen about one week ago, and I must say, I am quite impressed.  For approximately $300 (after rebate) I feel I got a pretty capable monitor.  I am not sure why I waited so long to get a widescreen format display, but I now wish I had sooner.  The Viewsonic is pleasing to the eye, offers nice contrast and has plenty of room for lots of windows.  I always have at least 10-15 windows open, so the roomier the monitor the better.   This monitor comes with both VGA and DVI inputs (I use the DVI to hook up to my Apple) and use the VGA when I need to hook up to my Dell (which rarely happens these days.)  The controls and setup are quite simple and it really didn’t take much effort to get it configured.  I haven’t yet done extensive study of my photos to see how good they look compared to my previous screen, but I think they will be fine.

On the down side, the stand is a bit flimsy, so the screen has a tendancy to bounce a little bit as I type.  Of course, part of that is due to the fact that I am on a cheap desk right now which also shakes when I type.  It kind of reminds me of those bobbleheads you get at baseball games.  I suspect once I buy my new office furniture (any day now) that the bobble will go away.

Others have commented that the speakers are lousy, but that is a no brainer to me.  I bought a monitor,  not a speaker system.  I don’t quite understand why manufacturer’s even bother to put speakers on monitors.  Is it so us consumers think we are getting a good deal?  Save the money and make the monitor better.

One thing I just discovered on this monitor that is a plus: You can have both the VGA and DVI ports connected. Then just the “2″ button to switch between them. No need to connect and disconnect the different cables.
