- Wear bright clothing! Cars are notoriously blind and often don’t think you have a right to be on the rode, so make sure they see you.
- Scout your trip ahead of time to see how long it is and where any tricky spots may be so you can decide if you want to avoid them.
- Try to control your anger towards the idiots who think you don’t belong on the rode. You never know whether that person might decide to take it out on you.
- I am not sure if this is right, but I feel safest at intersections if I establish myself in the middle of the lane so that cars that are turning left in the opposite lane can see me.
- I like to stand up so I appear bigger when I am going through tricky areas.
- Get good at clipping in so that you don’t have to think about it when starting at an intersection.
- Take your time and make sure you are seen. Going up the shoulder at a backed up red light may be faster, but you never know when a semi is going to decide to turn right w/o signaling his turn and miss you by mere inches (learn from my mistakes!)
- Enjoy your ride! Once you get used to the traffic, it beats being behind a windshield any day!
