Lucene and ApacheCon

Just finished my talk at ApacheCon. Resources for the talk, including the PowerPoint are available at http://www.cnlp.org/apachecon2005/.

Talk had a good turnout, especially since I wasn’t sure how many Lucene people are here. I would guess between 75-100 people. Had a fair number of good questions. A few people were wondering about db integration with Lucene, which seems to be a real theme on the Lucene mailing list lately. Probably a real opportunity for someone here to provide better integration of Lucene into an Open Source db.

Also had questions about scalability, namely wondering if Lucene can scale. From what I have seen and heard, Lucene scales quite nicely and can easily handle in the billions of documents, and I don’t think that is with some ungodly amount of hardware. Read the maling list, searching for scalability or scaling and you should see some good results.
